Dogs are thought to have descended from wolves in the wild. They were the first untamable wild animal. Most likely, early man carried home wolf cubs to keep as pets. Small lap dogs were created by the Ancient Greeks to be held in a woman's lap and keep her stomach warm. Bulldogs were created with large jaws and small noses so they could cling onto a bull's throat while still breathing. Dogs have been trained as seeing-eye dogs for the blind in more recent years.
